I have a Miata with some aftermarket exhaust mods that are heating the air conditioning line closest to my head. My air conditioner was barely putting out cool air on a hot day, and I knew I needed to insulate the duct a bit to fix this problem. I've considered buying closed cell AC line insulation, but its temperature rating is less than 200dF, it takes up a lot of space, and I was worried about icing up the line if too much insulation is used. There's a reason the air conditioning lines in cars have long, uninsulated sections of aluminum tubing, and I have a feeling it's due to over-compression of the coolant and icing. So I wanted to try capping the A/C line closest to the exhaust with a material that isn't a strong insulator but doesn't let exhaust heat through. So I tried this firefoil and it worked really well. The air conditioning blows noticeably colder air than before, but not so much that I'm worried about icing or compressor failure. I would recommend this firestop film to people with similar exhaust and air conditioning issues. However, do not wrap the entire air conditioning line in this insulation! Cover only the area exposed to the highest temperature!
