To me this is the best gate design on the market for a number of reasons. First things first: when open, there is nothing to step over. There is absolutely no risk of tripping. This is very important if you want to install them anywhere around stairs. Second, even when open, the gate swings almost entirely to the side, unlike most others which only leave a narrow opening. Gates are removed from the hinges if necessary. Third, the latch is easy to work with, but by tilting the hinge a bit I forced gravity to keep it closed (or open) and didn't even use the latch most of the time. - very convenient, and so far the dogs have not figured it out. Installation is pretty easy if you have hands and can be as solid as you like. I recommend finding pins to attach the hinge and latch with the correct screws, especially if you have a large dog that can rear up and put their weight on the gate, which will certainly pull out the drywall anchors. The manufacturer offers a wide range of optional clamp fittings for stair railings and other situations. Only issue is the set screws are a bit short so I used pennies as spacers which saved 18 cents compared to the previous reviewer who used dimes.
