Review on Rokinon 12mm F2.0 AF Ultra Wide Angle Auto Focus Lens: Sony E-mount Excellence by Chad Siofele

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is my first lens

So this is my first lens (I'm new) and didn't want a kit lens for the 3V-E10. I did some research and settled on a prime lens. Please take my review with a grain of salt and I will rate it for another newbie like me. 1) The physical product of the lens. It arrived in good packaging, the box was a little crumpled and what not. The inside of the package is strong and well protected. However, traces of dust are visible inside the lens under the flashlight. This didn't affect the general photos, it just annoyed me a little from the start. 2) Plastic of the same quality as ZV-E10. Solid, tolerance-free build and there are no loose components. It looks quite expensive, especially as the ring rotates with good smooth friction damping. It's relatively light compared to the bulky kit lens I once held in my hands. The weight distribution attached to the ZV-E10 shifts the center of gravity directly to the bracket. So for heavier cameras it's handy to be inside the body. 3) Functionality The bokeh is excellent, as expected, but has not yet reached maximum creaminess. The autofocus is very fast and quiet. Only my dog ear can pick up the auto focus. I did some research beforehand to convert effective focal length and f-number, so I got what I expected. In general, if you catch it on a discount, it's not a problem. However, at full price I'd probably settle for the original kit lens.
