I hate being the one who gives a bad review on a product because of a faulty device but we had so many problems not only with the printer but also with Star himself that I felt justified. I work as a computer technician at a ski resort with a restaurant upstairs. We recently upgraded all of our systems and I replaced the kitchen printer. Since we all had Star receipt printers (they worked great) I decided it would be better to use a Star kitchen printer instead of an Epson. Installation was very easy and painless, but the problems we had afterwards were unbearable. The printer disconnected from our network many times, which is why sometimes the hostess placed an order but nothing printed back to the kitchen. As you can imagine, this resulted in food not being cooked at the right time, angry customers and tense staff. I spent several hours on the phone with Star Tech Support trying to figure out if I did anything wrong during setup, but they said everything installed correctly. After changing the settings and trying the printer for a few days, the same problems reappeared. In the end we decided it was a defective unit and ordered another one. They sent us a USB printer and NOT a network printer which we obviously need for our restaurant. By this point we were so fed up with Star that I decided to bring them both back. While we were trying to return a faulty ethernet printer, Revane let us go and sent us to Star who sent us back to Revane who sent us to Star in an endless paradox. I was fed up at the time and ordered an extremely excellent kitchen printer from Epson. I installed it exactly like Star did and we haven't had any problems since. If you need a kitchen printer, just order an Epson printer. A star can get you in trouble and just isn't worth the risk.
