To be honest I hate using anchors because it's usually such a chore and I kind of screw it up just because I'm in a hurry. Drill holes that aren't big enough or too big and then use a bigger or smaller anchor because I messed up. They make it a lot easier. A small hole in the wall to see where it goes and you screw in the dowel without drilling. Then just one more screw and you're done. Now I really use anchors when I need to, and it takes me half the time. If you're not Mr. Fix It, in my case Mrs Fix It, or hate using anchors because of the hassle, then buy them, you definitely won't regret it.
