The kit comes with everything you need: paints, brushes, stencils etc. We added a cup of water and some paper towels but nothing else is needed . My six year old boy and his grandmother did a project together. Both had a lot of fun coloring the bowls and came up with funny ideas. I can't recommend her more highly for that. However, once you have to collect the bells, it becomes terribly difficult. My six year old son couldn't put it together and grandma gave up after about 30 minutes. Eventually I figured it out but I think they could improve the instructions a bit and the whole bell and hanging system.
