Doesn't meet my needs but still a good OTG cable

I bought this to work with a 2nd gen Firestick and a 2019 iPassPort keyboard with the new remote learning feature. If I could get it to work, I could turn on the TV, switch to the Firestick input, adjust the volume, and control the Firestick from a cool remote. but it didn't work for me. I have an old dumb Vizio TV in my office with a USB service port that powers the Firestick by itself. Unfortunately, the Firestick + USB dongle used a bit more power than the service USB port could deliver. At first I thought everything was working great. I could sit more than 6 feet from the TV, turn it on, scroll through the menus, and start streaming. everything looked fine. But within a minute or two, the Firestick video would go blank and never recover. The only way to fix this is to turn the TV off and on again and start over. I'm sure I can fix this with a USB extension cable and power from a better source, but I feel like I bought the wrong cable to begin with. I replaced the cable with this one: https://www.amazon.com/Splitter-Enhancer-Adapter-Charging-Converter/dp/B07C9CBSHW/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=micro+usb+splitter+cable&qid=1550130603&s=gateway&sr= 8-5 I also tried this OTG cable and Firestick on a TV with a USB 3.0 port and no luck there either. I took everything down to my new Vizio Smart TV with a blue USB 3.0 port. Nothing is blocked on this TV, but the iPassPort transmission distance was only about 2 inches from max. transceiver. After some troubleshooting, I found that if I reached for the TV and put my hand on the USB transceiver (which became the antenna), I could get it to pick up signals from the keyboard from a few feet away. My guess is that using this cable on a smart TV somehow isolates the USB transceiver from the TV's ground. I don't think the cable is to blame as I was able to broadcast from a few feet away to the TV in my office with no problem.
