I bought these for my little girl. As a family we hike a few state parks and we really like these shoes. Her previous shoes were regular casual shoes. They didn't hold up well on pedestrian surfaces. They work great on dirt and rocks. The treat prevents slipping, especially on gravel roads. Since we used them for hiking, their everyday shoes last longer as they don't get eaten up by the trails. The laces are like a tight rubber band. You may need to pull on the tongue to stretch the shoe just enough for your child to fit. Velcro is nice because it allows for a little more adjustment depending on how tight you want the shoe to be.
