Review on GIGABYTE Ultra Compact Mini PC with Intel UHD Graphics 600, M.2 SSD, HDMI 2.0A, and DP1.2A Component - GB-BLCE-4105 by John Akins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

In my opinion this is a very inexpensive way to get a Celeron J4105 compact box working

Pretty good design. Easy installation and configuration. Memory: Crucial 16GB Kit (8GB x 2), 260-pin SODIMM, DDR4 PC4-19200 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019FRDAY6) Boot Drive: Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M .2 SSD - CT1000P1SSD8 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J2Q4SWZ) Storage: External USB3, Attached Western Digital Red 4TB NAS Hard Drive - 5400RPM SATA Class 6Gb/c, 64MB 3.5" Cache - WD40EFRX (https://www.amazon.com/Red-4TB-NAS-Hard-Drive/dp/B00EHBERSE) in Vantec 3.5" SATA Hard Drive Enclosure 6Gb/ s to USB 3.1 Gen II Type-A (NST-370A31-BK) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WT99GNW) OS: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (installed via USB stick, writable downloaded ISO image with Etcher.) Usage: always on grid computing and in memory (not burning but too much power) So the fan doesn't bother me when restarting :-) and to be honest it's not that loud and lasts somewhere - then 2 seconds. Removing stars for this reason seems pretty drastic to me. Video at 1920x1080 is great. Desktop use is fine (e.g. email, ng browser and maybe office). Read other reviews about 4K, multiple monitors and the ultimate gaming experience. Note, however, that the graphics come from the CPU (Intel® UHD Graphics 600). So if that's what you're looking for, look for another system with a discrete graphics card and a more powerful CPU. Image: Original setup with 1TB SSB (which I converted to another system) I then switched to the 1TB nvme mentioned above. Pay attention to 16 GB of memory (it was possible to put 32 GB)

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised
