I've heard that using silk or silky material for pillowcases and hair accessories prevents hair breakage because silk doesn't pull or pull and will pull moisture from the hair hair. To test this, I've purchased several silk pillowcases and hair ties over the past few months. I like to wear my thin strands in a messy bun for most of the day and sleep with my hair loose at night. I wash it every few days, touch up with dry shampoo and don't style it too hot. My hair is not damaged. I don't suffer from scalp conditions like psoriasis or dandruff. My hair is naturally soft and lifeless. Even if I don't do much about it, I want my hair to be healthy. After using silk products for a few months, I noticed that the breakage was less. I haven't changed anything else in my routine, so I think silk ties and pillowcases made a difference. I wanted to try this 8 piece set (bridesmaid gift) of silk hair ties (7 black, one white) as I had stretched most of my others and needed new ones. Unfortunately, I think they will work better for those with medium to thick hair. They're either too loose or too tight for me depending on what I'm trying to do. Again, my hair is naturally thin, flat, and long (below my shoulders). If I take one of those smooth, silky elastics and try to twist it into a regular ponytail, two loops won't do and three gets too tight. When I tie my strands in a bun, two twists are enough. However, I often get stuck fixing and securing loose hair when using these pretty silky ties. Just because it's my experience doesn't mean they don't work for others. I think my hair type and thickness has more to do with it than the scrunchie. Silk is naturally smooth and the tie sewn inside feels small, stretchy and strong. The product feels well made. It just doesn't quite meet my needs.
