See What You Breathe

I had the opportunity to buy a Langkou air quality meter and took the opportunity to see if the HEPA filter in my bedroom really cleans fine dust. Unpacking was similar to Apple's with a quality box and strong molded plastic insert to prevent the monitor from shaking during transit. The package included a power cord but no charger as they assumed customers had multiple spares which was a correct guess on their part as I had quite a few to choose from in my crowded charging box. The instructions provided were a bit sparse but covered the essentials. After plugging it in and seeing a red light on the charging port, I knew I was ready to go. I pressed the power button and was very quickly greeted by a high quality blue background display with large white numbers showing CO2 ppm levels, rotating PM air quality (PM 1.0 micrograms/cubic meter, PM 2.5 and PM 10) and See also show temperature in degrees Celsius and relative humidity in %. Since I don't normally use Celsius, I went back to the instructions and found that a quick press of the power button would display Fahrenheit, which it did. I noticed that the CO2 level rose very quickly to 1000ppm and an alarm went off which took me back to the instructions that a quick double press of the on/off button would silence the alarm, which it did. I was worried the alarm was going off so I did a little search on Duck Duck Go (like Google but it doesn't track you) and found that the NIOSH recommended exposure limit is 5000ppm so I was in good shape . A little more testing showed that airtight homes tended to have higher levels of CO2, and since we live in Minnesota, where airtight homes are good in the winter, I was less concerned, but I opened the window and saw that it was 400, -800 ppm dropped. I found the meter easy to use and read, but the instructions do not indicate what is good and bad in terms of readings and I believe the 1000ppm CO2 alarm is too low given the NIOSH REL 5000 . I'm still revising to determine if a HEPA filter is important, but early signs are minimal. Overall I'm very happy with this device which seems to be made of quality materials and has a great display.
