Extends to desired length and locks in place. I can wash both sides of the windscreen (Ford Explorer) from the driver's seat. I just used a rag that had nothing on it and it cleaned the windshield quite well. Then I covered the outside with the same fabric and it turned out great. The car wash with its so-called error-free drying did not dry parts of my car and not only dried but also cleaned the areas that the car wash did not clean. The rags are easy to put on and take off and wash well. I highly recommend it. When you're done, unlock the handle and it slides in to create a compact little marvel. I put it and 3 tissues in a bag and voila. everything is neatly hidden.
