Review on Polk Audio Wide Dispersion Satellite Speakers by Tracey Bacon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The RM8 satellite speakers are cute and sound great

I bought these to start building my own RM95 kit. I've been looking for a RM95 kit for a while but couldn't afford to pay for all of them at once so this game gives me a chance to try them one by one with my rig before making a big investment. For reference, I am using this system with a consumer amp (Sony HT-DDW680), high quality cable and only 2.1ch surround sound when I received them. The system is installed in a small 10x12 playroom, so there are very important acoustic limits to the volume of the room. However, there is a noticeable change in sound quality compared to previous SONY SS-MSP680 speakers. The speaker elements are roughly the same diameter, but these Polk components have a clearer sound. Of course the comparison is wrong (3-way speaker vs. 1-way speaker), but the sound in the same room is comparatively much better. At the time of writing this review, I purchased the second component of the kit: the RM8 center channel speaker. Amazing combination! I would have no hesitation in recommending this center speaker and RM8 satellite to my friends. I will go for 5.1 by buying another RM8 kit as soon as possible. All in all I save a few bucks buying it this way compared to buying the whole set :-D
