Well it's not a bitch! - UPDATED

I am using this as the phono stage from my Technics turntable with a very high quality stylus. Then it goes to an 11 band stereo EQ and then to my 250w Samson studio amp. (Tried with class D amp and tube AB amp). Speakers by Sansui (it's just amazing). I'm trying them out (I use them for prototyping or dummy loads) but for this module I need a basis for comparison. Chinese whistles were ok. It would probably be better if I let them burn through for 30-50 hours. However, this will not happen. I then installed some military 6J1P EVs with a 1983 date code and yes they stay there. Any reviews that say the tubes aren't part of the amplification are wrong. Easily swap tube types, MFGS or use tubes with other assays. That will show you. I also tried some of my 6AU6 and 6AK5 and although I didn't have a matching pair they worked great too. My 6J1P-EV (Gold/Platinum) is tested more intensively on my EMC206 tester which is a great tester after the overhaul and a few . Hmm additions. I also like the three different gain settings. This makes this thing even more versatile and customizable. So yes, there may be cheaper AND much more expensive phono stages out there, but for me it was cheaper than building one from scratch and I'm very satisfied. The tubes allow me to change the nature of the tone, making it more flexible in the long run. Result; YES, I would recommend both sound quality and aesthetic factors. - UPDATE - This little preamp is still working fine after a year. Don't let other reviews tell you this isn't a tube preamp. Yes, it's a hybrid of tubing and silicone, and I'm glad it's lighter, quieter, cooler, and more portable. As in my original review, switch tubes to get the desired result. (Hey seller: You should offer different tubes as an option.) My albums sound great and I have also connected this unit to other turntables and amplifiers. Took it to friends and tried their systems with results that made them want to get one. IMHO the best option for the money. I even used it to experiment with overdrive on my Silvertone 1484 (an old tube guitar amp). Wow. I hope this review helps people move away from full sounding solid state systems and into their own unique, customized listening experience.
