This works great for connecting my windows 7 laptop to the console port of a cisco router. He downloaded and installed the drivers. I noticed that installing the drivers set my device to Com 6. Then I told putty to use that port. After that I was able to connect to Putty with no problems. So there are no problems with the combat, it just works. Edit: I just bought another one as I left my old one at work. It is great. They make it easy to connect Putty to a Cisco console and other devices that provide an RJ45 connection to the console. Now I have Windows 8.1. For some reason the COM port keeps moving, so from time to time I have to look in Device Manager for the current COM port number. But other than that, this thing connects every time.
