This is a well weighted shovel. The design would be excellent if it was one piece (but it's still a 5 star product). I have not experienced water getting between the handle and blade while using the dishwasher. But I foresee that over time it may become a laundering related factor. But it's worth it. I see that weight can only be an issue for people who cannot hold small heavy objects as tools.
