Warning: excellent printer for a month; then some questions. Never works again.

What a very long and uncomfortable road to own this printer! I chose this printer as a good entry-level option for my son. It was a PC Mag Editor's Choice and seemed like a good plug and play solution. It worked really well for the first few weeks. The first annoyance was initially the patented yarn, both because of the high cost and because the spools were thrown away when a few yards were left because the machine's internal counter thought they were empty. After a few successful first weeks, the printer stopped feeding filament. into the print head. Unlike many other companies, the drive motor that moves the filament is on the outside of the printer (next to the filament spool). It essentially pushes the filament toward the printhead, unlike most printers that have a motor on or near the printhead that pulls the filament into the printer. Because of this design choice, XYZ uses a transparent tube to keep the filament lined up as it enters the printer, otherwise it will loop and go nowhere. This turned out to be the first problem as the hose itself would not stay attached. to the print head. When the motor started pushing the filament, the tube popped out and started pushing away from the printhead instead of feeding the filament into the nozzle. Although the customer service reps were very polite and full of suggestions to try, it took them about two weeks to agree to send the device in for warranty repair. We then learned that their policy states that the buyer must pay for one-way shipping to a service center in California, which cost us over $30. Two weeks after sending it in, we received the device back. We plugged it in, and although the feed tube stayed connected, the filament stopped moving before it hit the nozzle. We've restarted the customer support email thread with a few suggestions over the course of a few days for you to try. They even set up a phone call to try and help us in real time. After the first few days, I was very upset and asked for a replacement device to be exchanged, which the company management refused. Finally, a rep suggested intentionally detaching the filament tube from the printhead, manually pushing the filament into the nozzle, then putting the tube back where it should be and reattaching it. Obviously this is an annoying workaround every time you need to load a new filament and it clearly indicates a design flaw as the end of the filament gets stuck where the tube connects to the head. But we finally found out. at least for download, and we tried to print a small element to make sure it still works. Surprise - it printed for 5 minutes and then stopped feeding the filament and the printer kept moving the nozzle, not realizing that nothing was coming out. So we removed the filament, cleaned the nozzle and went through the crazy feed tube ritual to reload it. And of course another 5 minutes of typing and nothing. This happened a total of 3 more times before we gave up. I requested a replacement unit again and this time was told we were "out of time for a replacement". How convenient. When we were on time, our application was denied. As soon as we got off we were rejected because it was already too late. see patterns? Their final offer was that we box it up, pay another $30 to ship it back to them and hope for the best. No thank you. Luckily, Revain gave us excellent customer service that no manufacturer could match. We are now ordering one from another brand that has a much better reputation. To be honest we had a few customer service reps who really tried to help us, but they limited themselves to some very questionable design options and company policies that made the whole experience very miserable.
