Previous amplifier - Yamaha A-S301. With this 6000A, I immediately noticed tighter, more powerful bass that really got my speakers going. Overall well balanced sound, much more clarity, soundstage. The sound is not too warm, but precise and detailed. Although both amps have roughly the same power output, Audiolab's higher current draw and huge filtering capacity seems to make a big difference compared to Yamaha. Audiolab's 50-watt output sounds massive compared to the Yamaha. I don't want to disparage the Yamaha, it's 1/3 the price and works well with less power, volume requirements and it has great features, but the Audiolab produces excellent sound. I also use a digital cable from my Yamaha CD player to Audiolab's digital input, bypassing the Yamaha DAC and using the excellent 6000A DAC. This was an immediate improvement too.
