Description of 🎵 Audiolab 6000A Black: 100W Integrated Amp/Bluetooth DAC - High-Fidelity Stereo Powerhouse

An amplifier remains the beating heart of any high-performance audio system, but in 2018 a truly versatile integrated amp needs to cover many bases – digital and analogue sources, wireless connectivity for portable devices, a phono stage to cater for vinyl playback, amplification for headphones as well as speakers... That’s a lot to pack in, whilst keeping performance high and the price tag affordable – and yet, that’s exactly what the 6000A delivers. Outwardly, the 6000A bears strong resemblance to the 8300A with its rotary controls and large, central OLED display. Unlike its costlier, analogue-only sibling, it incorporates high-quality D/A conversion, enabling digital sources to be connected directly without an external DAC. It supplies four digital inputs, three line-level analogue inputs, an input for a turntable, wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and a dedicated headphone amp, in addition to its ability when driving loudspeakers. Much effort has been made to ensure the 6000A’s digital circuitry delivers the level of quality one might expect of a high-performance standalone DAC. As ever, Audiolab has turned to the ES9018 Sabre32 Reference chip family to perform D/A conversion, utilising ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator to deliver ultra-low noise and high dynamic range. The 6000A’s discrete Class AB power amp stage delivers 50W per channel into eight ohms, with a maximum current delivery of 9 Amps into difficult loads. The output stage of the discrete power amp circuits uses a CFB (Complementary Feedback) topology, ensuring superior linearity and excellent thermal stability, as the idle current is kept independent of the temperature of the output transistors. In recognition of the recent vinyl revival, Audiolab has included a phono stage for moving magnet phono cartridges – a high-quality, low-noise, JFET-based circuit with precise RIAA equalisation. Similarly, an increasing number of people are using headphones for music listening, so Audiolab has incorporated a dedicated headphone amp with current-feedback circuitry.

Exceeded all expectations

I upgraded my receiver from an Integra AV receiver to this Audiolab stereo receiver and was amazed at the performance of my Bowers & Wilkins 685s2 speakers. The flexibility of the many digital inputs has allowed me to streamline and simplify my stereo system. A+++++

A very good entry-level product.

Satisfies most of the user's needs thanks to reliable Bluetooth and digital sound with decent filters. In some cases, you may need to use an additional equalizer for bright speakers or recover badly formatted music files. This is where the amp/preamp feature comes into play. A very good entry-level product. With its simple operation, this elegant box is ideal for most listeners.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old
Cons
  • Very expensive

Fantastic sound Integrated amplifier

I replaced the Creek 4140 v2 amplifier with a separate Audio Alchemy and DTI DAC with this unit. The difference is amazing. Clarity, volume, depth, bass, detail - every aspect gets better. I highly recommend this unit if you are looking for a new upgrade with a built in DAC. Fantastic product in every way! Congratulations to Audiolab, you kicked it out of the park.

  • Handsfree
Cons

Dull sound, good for amps

My boombox-level Denon m38 amp knocks Audiolab out of the water. Rated at 6 ohms, this little Denon box drives the Dynaudio Emit10 like a dream. Almost immediately returned the amplifiers Audiolab, NAD, Yamaha. (The NAD CD player has been retained, which greatly improves the overall sound.) I have to admit, I wanted to like this beautiful Audiolab box. I would buy one, gut it and put a Denon in it for both tonal and aesthetic value.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • It's OK

Quality unit with attention to detail.

Pens may seem expensive but the remote control is simple and easy to use. Of the advantages: 1. Build quality2. Fantastic sound 3. The DAC and filters are amazing4. PRE OUT is a great feature for adding a subwoofer or separate amplifier5. It can be an integrated amp, a stand-alone amp, or an excellent preamp. The only thing I would say is that it is very basic and has fewer features than some others and may not have enough power if your speakers are 4-6 ohms. If necessary, it is easy to solve…

Fast, powerful bass, balance and clarity

Previous amplifier - Yamaha A-S301. With this 6000A, I immediately noticed tighter, more powerful bass that really got my speakers going. Overall well balanced sound, much more clarity, soundstage. The sound is not too warm, but precise and detailed. Although both amps have roughly the same power output, Audiolab's higher current draw and huge filtering capacity seems to make a big difference compared to Yamaha. Audiolab's 50-watt output sounds massive compared to the Yamaha. I don't want to…
