Don't forget to transfer the chip from the old key to the new case.

A key case is better than spending $400 to buy a new key and have it programmed into your car. All comments about the plastic sleeve coming loose when turning the key are genuine. This can happen right after use or it can take a while. But in the end, it's likely that the key body won't hold together. Mine is sealed with black tape. It's working for now, but I'm sure at some point I'll either re-tap or look for a new plastic shell. The remarks about remembering the chip are also genuine. You'll need to transfer what looks like a small, rectangular piece of black plastic from your old key into the designated slot in the new housing. It fits into the slot that is part of the piece that attaches the metal key to the plastic shell. If the chip is not in your new plastic shell or next to the ignition switch, when you start the car, the starter will continue to turn but the engine will not start. No, your car is fine. The car only needs a microchip in combination with a metal key to start it. The microchip is easy to miss during assembly and can be difficult to get out of an old key. I pulled mine out by gently prying off the plastic part of the old key shell that was holding the chip with a small eyeglass screwdriver.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
