. Add just a few millimeters of thickness. My main issue is that the Phanteks $10 Halos base kit doesn't come with a cable adapter to connect to the motherboard and for some reason Phanteks uses 4-pin JST connectors on their Halos. It's sold separately, but for $5, which means that if you can't find or make your own JST adapter, you'll either have to spend $5 to buy it, or buy the Lux version that contains the adapter. In that sense, it makes the Lux a very good value as you get the aluminum construction for only a small premium over the regular Halo, including the price of the adapter. but from another perspective, forcing regular customers to make such a choice is an anti-consumer approach. As far as lux and normal halos are concerned, they work the same way. The aluminum version is certainly very chunky and attractive, but of course once you've mounted it to a fan it will be difficult for most people to tell the two types apart. Another consideration is that Lux isn't as unobtrusive as the regular halos around the RGB circle. I don't think this will affect most builds, but it might make a difference if you have very tight gaps. All in all, apart from the JST connector issue, I highly recommend it.
