1. The VCR part did not load a VCR tape when a VCR cassette was inserted in the VCR slot. The movement of the internal mechanism could be heard, but the VCR tape did not feed into the cassette deck. Therefore, the VCR did not play the tape. That's why I returned this item.2. The DVD tray only opens this distance (about ½ inch) when you press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the player and/or remote control (see photo). The compartment can be opened manually and closes correctly with every button. Since the VCR portion doesn't load tapes, I'm not sure how long the DVD portion will allow disc playback access.
