I bought this knowing it was a fairly budget option but the two filters and their lifespan are good. As for the pH boost math, it only makes it up by about 1 point with one filtration and my relatively neutral tap water (from 6.2 to 7.4). It reduces hardness much better and increases alkalinity (according to test strips). While it improves the taste of the water, the size is a bit small for a big family and very small for collecting or using water. cook if that is your intention. In comparison, it takes about 5 minutes to filter 4 cups with fill and pour (a full top tank, so more like a 1 liter jug in practice). I would (and do) pair it with a fridge dispenser if you like cold drinks (chilled, pre-filtered or post). It's a minor inconvenience removing the lid to refill, but considering everything else, I'd go with a larger pitcher.
