Called? Motherboard error in my HP477!

Housed in my HP 477 and now the motherboard failed when I replaced the cartridge. I am going to throw away my $699 printer after 14 months of use as HP does not endorse their product. They want me to pay shipping and then do the $400 repair! If you have a printer, you can buy cheap cartridges...
