Based on the good reviews on her bookshelves my sister was looking for two channel speakers for the living room as I saw how they could play more I recommended these . When she received them we plugged them in and started playing music and you could tell they were made of a different fabric. I was so impressed that I immediately ordered a pair for my bedroom. Well I've had them for a few days now and they're impressive. Connected to the Yamaha R-S700, the sound was punchy, detailed but not overly explicit. They offer a balanced level of enjoyment, but also offer details at the highest level. To see how the Miccas compare, I brought them into my living room to bake with my Klipsch RP 8000f. When hooked up to my Marantz SR6012 they could adequately fill a large living room, I did notice a drop in bass but this was easily complemented by a subwoofer. Marantz really opened up Micca, letting her breathe, while the image wasn't quite as accurate as it was on Klipsch. The soundstage was larger and even seemed to extend beyond the speakers. Klipsch had a more direct performance with the stage in front of you. While the sound of mica seemed to envelop you. For midrange speed and accuracy, the Mikka beats the Excel, while the Klipsch had a much heavier and punchier midrange. Overall at $300/pair I couldn't believe how well they matched my $1200/pair towers, even preferring micca on a few songs. All in all, this is home run, they're affordable, they sound great and they're built incredibly well. Caveats: These speakers take some time to break in, when I first got them I noticed that the highs were a bit shrill, but it settled down over the next hour or so. As I continued playing music through them, the soundstage seemed to open up more. They have no problem filling a medium sized room and below at loud levels without distortion. But in larger rooms I've noticed a bass drop, it's best to work with a subwoofer and a high-pass filter. Once I did that, I was able to play them at the same volume as Klipsch without distortion. The speakers need to be moved away from the wall a bit, the vents are very small and a lot of air flows through them so I noticed that they were against the wall, you would hear the vent chug. But it's easy to fix, just move it away from the wall a little and it will go away. Five stars overall, great speaker, Mikka.
