New Turtle Owners - PLEASE READ!

First off let me say this is a great set for the price. Included in the box are samples of water care products and products, as well as a few extra activated carbon filter bags. However, the only turtles that can spend most of their lives in this aquarium are male musk turtles and possibly mud turtles. Before purchasing a turtle, research the species and its specific needs (aquarium size, substrate, type of food, etc.). I think this would be a great feeding/temporary aquarium but not for most turtle species. Sliders, Painted Turtles, Cooters, Cards, Reefs, Turtles, Softshells and Snappers will outgrow this enclosure and would be cruel to keep them in, even at a young age. The maximum water level is too shallow. Turtles NEED at least 10 gallons of space per inch of tank. For example, if you have a 4 inch turtle, they will need at least 40 gallons. Other things you will need: - UV lamp - Heat lamp - Water heater - Heat zone, choose Penn Plax Turtle Topper - High quality canister or power filter rated for twice the size of your aquarium - Do yourself a favor and throw it away - Sand/river rock substrate or bare bottom aquarium (never gravel). Some decorations for enrichment, like driftwood, stones and plants. Good granules. Reptomin, Mazuri, and Zoo Med are great. I didn't use nearly everything that came in the kit and bought a new filter and fuel tank style swim platform so I could fill the tank up completely. Be careful - depending on your turtle, they might try to eat the plastic plants they brought with them.
