Review on Quadcopter DJI Mavic Air 2, grey by Aneta Patryk (Anetka ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Full compliance with the manufacturer's assurances, high quality.

I bought the Chinese version, I didn’t wait for European versions from official dealers, and my hands were very itchy. The Chinese plug is easily replaced with a charging cable from an old camera with a European plug. I switched to Mavic Air 2 from Mavic Mini, on which I flew for several months from December 2022. Of course, there is an abyss between them in everything: the communication range (800 m versus 4-5 km in practice), and video quality (there is no 4K in mini in principle), and the presence of proximity sensors, and the presence of ActiveTrack, and in general a lot of things. I really liked the new remote control - it is larger, thicker and the location of the smartphone on top is somehow more natural or something. The sides are rubberized, the plastic is pleasant, it is comfortable to hold. In general, I was waiting for the Mavic 3, but it is being postponed and postponed, I decided to take the Air 2 for now. And, frankly, the Air 2 covers almost all the needs for amateur shooting, now you will think about whether the Mavic 3 will really be needed at a price of 2 times more , is it worth overpaying for side sensors and an inch matrix. On Air 2, so far, the flight time is about 10 hours and 150 km per month. For all the time, there was a loss of the GPS signal 1 time - I just lost almost all the satellites and the hyperlapse shooting was interrupted, the copter switched to ATTI mode. According to the logs, it was clear that at some point the GPS coordinates became zero, that is, in Africa. Perhaps he ran into a GPS signal jammer. C Mini had a similar situation in the same location. In general, the impressions are only positive and this is the device on which you can stop. If the Mini was bought deliberately as an initial stage and it was initially clear with it that it would need to be sold soon, and its limited capabilities manifest themselves with every flight, then in the case of the Air 2, the opposite is true. This is the device that is enough in everyday situations in all respects, and there are so many possibilities that you can’t try everything in the first days of ownership.

Pros
  • The quality of daytime shooting, a huge variety of shooting modes, including creative ones like asteroid, panoramas, hyperlapse, slow motion. I liked the hyperlapse the most, it can be set both in a circle, and spanning points, but in general, whatever you like. And the shots are great both day and night. Photography is also on top, also a lot of opportunities. Flight stability - everything is as usual here, everything is clear, it resists the wind very well. A new remote control - here you can write a separate review on it. The 2.4 GHz version promises a communication range of 6 km, in practice in the city up to 3 km - there began small interruptions in communication, but RTH was not turned on yet. Outside the city in an open field easily 4 km before the first video failures. So 5-6 km in an open field, apparently, is really a reality, but these are constant communication interruptions and the inclusion of RTH. Personally, for my tasks, 2-3 km is enough, and most importantly, there will be no failures. The flight time, again, in practice, is always 20-25 minutes, and this battery landed up to 20-30%. It depends very much on wind resistance - a very energy-intensive task, somehow caught gusts at a height, did not blow it away, but at 50% of the charge it showed the remaining flight time of 5 minutes. I would also include a combo package as a plus: +2 batteries (separately for 9990 r), ND filters (4990 r), spare blades (3 pairs for 990 r), bag (6990 r), charging hub (4990 r). Savings are very noticeable if you buy everything separately. Is that all you need? I liked the work of proximity sensors - they work perfectly, they work somewhere 1-1.5 meters from an obstacle, if you fly up slowly, even if these are tree branches, and not a solid wall. But the sensors work only in the daytime, in low light, as in the sport mode, they turn off. Now all USB Type-C ports. There are built-in 8 GB of memory, they are enough to shoot video in 4K 60fps for 8 minutes, that is, this is a very, very fallback option. There is shooting in RAW and D-Cinelike for the possibility of color correction of materials. There is HDR, but only up to 30 fps.
Cons
  • Price in 2022. In the USA it sells for $799 and a combo for $988, but we have a combo in the region of $1400. At the same time, you can’t buy the European version, it doesn’t exist, apparently, all the parties left on pre-orders. There are no side sensors - but this is already marketing, they should have cut something off and left it for the Mavic 3, which will be released now no one knows when. The most noticeable minus for me is the evening video shooting. Pulls ISO more than 400-800 and that's it, the picture turns into a terrible soap. Well, ND filters are very small, they need to be installed on a small dangling camera - it's scary to tear off the camera. I would also include a bag from the combo kit as a minus - it is uncomfortable and impractical. It has 2 main sections: for the copter and for everything else, plus a couple of pockets. Here is the second section for everything else is divided by a partition, the remote control and batteries should be located in it, but if the remote control can still be put tightly, then the batteries hang freely. And all the rest of the junk is supposed to be stuffed into the pockets in the bag, and the same charging hub is generally tormented to fit somewhere, because it is very long, almost like a bag. Basically, you can't remove the strap. So if you don’t have a combo, then it’s better to buy a case from PGYTECH, it is more practical and costs almost 2 times cheaper. In general, as such, there are no serious disadvantages. There are more compromises here. This is still an average device in the line, it will not have everything possible. It makes no sense to complain about the reduced features - you just have to pay extra for them in the older model.
