Fails when you need it most, Thermaltake quality drops

This unit seemed perfect at the time my motherboard died and I needed to get my files working on two separate drives. Setup was easy, Windows recognized both hard drives right away, and the device was used with a laptop with limited hard drive space until a replacement desktop came along, or that was the plan. At a very important moment when it was needed, this device let me down. Although it worked fine for less than 2 months with no errors or read/write issues, it didn't turn on when I needed it for a key time. The power supply was protected by the UPS so no surges would kill them. The device didn't fall, it just chose not to turn on. Luckily I had an old BlacX 1 hard drive from 2011 which still works great (knock on wood) and can hopefully last long until a replacement desktop arrives. I started the RMA process with Thermal-take, we'll see. how to proceed and the rating will be updated. Unfortunately, this is another case where a company skimps on quality to save a few bucks. I don't have high hopes that the replacement will last longer than this first block. I will definitely keep this old unit from 2011 as it seems Thermal-take had quality units back then. Update 7/12 Two weeks after I submitted an RMA request and received no response. Update 7/15 That seems too temperamental. Today it decided to turn on and read data from hard drives, so I'll let it sit for a while and see if it repeats the problem without turning it on. Maybe there was a bad connection at the switch?
