First of all, don't be put off by the comments that these hubcaps cannot be fitted. If you have some mechanical ability (as well as a bit of arm strength) you won't have any trouble at all. I put them on 2 1/8" partially enclosed wheels (maximum recommended diameter is 2 1/4") and they ran great. Aside from that, they require a bit of preparation to make installation as easy as possible. . As others have suggested, I first soaked them in a bowl of hot tap water for a few minutes to make them more pliable, then stretched them hard but gently like a rubber band just before fitting. I see the biggest problem with these cases. scratches are still possible. Yes, they're unlikely to scratch your floor, but they still roll on the floor. If there is dirt on the floor (or sticking to the soft floor material), the floor may be scratched. With a chair mat, the wheels never touch the floor, so keeping it clean and keeping the floor clean is never a problem. Since my chair is hardwood, I sweep/vacuum/mop the floor around my desk every other day and wipe down the wheels once a week. Time will tell, but the space around my desk certainly looks better without the giant carpet of chairs.
