These shells make me happy every time I use them. They're safe to use in the microwave, and while I haven't had much time to use them in the microwave often, I read another review that mentioned that the outside of the bowl stayed cool enough to touch when they were in microwave ovens and were safe to use. That was very important to me. I have other Asian style blue bowls as well as white ceramic bowls that complement them beautifully. I am very happy with them and they would make a great gift. They were carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and packaged in a nice sturdy box that I plan to use again. They would be easy to wrap.
