Functionally this is a good tool set for the novice or casual sculptor, although they seem to have some material/construction issues. I've already invested some time and energy into troubleshooting what I can fix, but others may want to buy a higher quality set so they don't waste time on the item they just bought. I would have sent back my full replacement set but I needed them for a project before I could get them. Brown Handled Blue Tip Tools: These work quite well. The tips have a degree of flexibility that was a little less useful for my purposes, but that may not be the case for all. One of them arrived with a missing piece of lace (pictured). Also, the glue that attaches the wooden handle to the metal part of the tool doesn't do its job very well. Two of mine were very loose and one fell apart in my hand before I used it for the first time. I went ahead and re-glued the handles, to get the desired strength. It was a fairly easy task, but a bit annoying for something straight out of the box. The tool that arrived damaged cannot be repaired and is not very user friendly. So that had some impact on the cost of the set. However, I believe it was probably a manufacturing defect, which is not common, so it's less likely for others to experience. Large Ball Stylus Tools: These are solid metal with a softer plastic sleeve around the center/handle. They have good performance and weight. It looks like they're holding up well over time! Smaller Ballpoint Pens/Tools with Clear Silicone Tip (Light Blue Pens): This is a versatile and useful little group of sculpting tools, but they don't have the same weight and durability. another set of ballpoint pens since the center/button is wood, although it doesn't seem to have the sticking issues that other wood-handled tools have. After one use, the paint (or coating?) on one of the wooden handles has blistered and I suspect they will soon be chipping. I'll probably sand the entire handle to remove all of the paint so bits of it don't get into my clay. Again, this adds another step to things, but it's not an impossible task. to remove all the paint to avoid getting any shards in my clay.
