2nd Buy; Broken Jar

I bought 3 of these in a prior order and had no issues with them. They arrived perfectly fine and provided me some stunning results, which was why I wanted more.I ordered only 1 jar the second time around. The jar was packed in a single plastic bag instead of the box the 3 jars had come in last time. As a result, the lip of the lid came off. The underglaze exploded in the bag (which thankfully remained intact and did not explode on my carpet). The plastic seal also came off.I believe it is not…

Pros
  • GET CONSISTENT RESULTS - Opaque colors will not move or bleed; for best results, apply 2-3 liberal coats
Cons
  • May dry out quickly if not carefully stored

Not worth the money

Half of these came with a broken seal, some dry some liquidy as can be. Also some half full so not sure what that was about. Not worth the money spent, feels like I wasted so much money on a pottery class when everything I made with underglaze came out so sheer no matter how many layers I put on. Go for amaco if you can, better quality and you won’t have to guess if your pieces will come out well or not. Safe to say I will NOT be reordering these glazes ever again.

Pros
  • product was used with my grandchildren
Cons
  • May not adhere well to certain types of ceramics

DONT KNOW YET for my opinion

i just got it, how can i possibly rate this. the process of using an underglaze is not an over night thing. you make a plate, (raw clay) let it dry for several days, then use the underglaze. they the process is to bisque fire it, which takes about 2 days, then you have to glaze it with a clear glaze, that takes several days to get enough bisque wear to load the kiln, then fire it for another 2 days. these reviews need to take into account some time to use the products, and even see how long…

Pros
  • Great for use with different firing temperatures
Cons
  • May not adhere well to certain types of glaze or slip

Good stuff. Very thick and true to color

Good stuff. Very thick and true to color. Comes out even in the kiln and a beautiful vibrant medium red. There is not too much yellow in it. It is a rich true red. It is not burgundy unless you were to fire it differently. Mine was fired to cone 10.

Pros
  • No different then the more expensive glazes and this works well. Nice to have so many colors in a set
Cons
  • May require special storage to maintain quality

Returned and Resold

When I received the bottle of underglaze it had obviously been opened, used, and returned. When I opened it, the paper covering under the lid had a slit in it and the underglaze was all over and the jar was not close to full. I needed it for a project that needed to be done the next day so I kept it but if it hadn't been for that, it would have been returned.

Pros
  • Arts, Crafts & Sewing
Cons
  • May not produce the desired results when layered or mixed with other colors

The color is called white. This is not White!

This is not white. It is not even beige. It’s more like a putty color which is not at all what I wanted. I hoped that the color only looked like that in the container and once It was applied and dried it would get lighter but it didn’t. I would return it had I not already opened it. Very disappointed.

Pros
  • Suitable for use with a variety of firing methods, including electric and gas kilns
Cons
  • May produce a different finish or texture than expected after firing

Be careful of colora

The yellow and orange were much to bright - almost fluorescent. Very unappealing on pottery. Clumps quickly needed to thin considerably.

Pros
  • Perfect for creating personalized gifts or artwork
Cons
  • May require additional cleaning or preparation before use

You need theses: my feedback

I love that I get to see what colors I really gravitate to with this sample kits. They are so easy to use Speedball Art Products.

Pros
  • Speedball Art Products
Cons
  • May not be compatible with certain types of glazes

Don't be surprised

Set of 12 bottles came with 2 bottles of red and no orange. Green bottle was leaking. Used 4 colors so far and application went well in spite of some lumps.

Pros
  • Resistant to cracking and peeling, even after multiple firings
Cons
  • May not be suitable for use on certain types of ceramic decorations, such as relief work or carving

Perfect choice for the hobbyist

I read a lot of reviews before choosing Speedball underglazes. They’re reportedly not quite as good as the more pricey brands but if you’re a hobbyist, the price difference makes up for it.Hint: put some underglaze and a drop or two of water in a fine tipped bottle for detailing. And DO NOT ALLOW UNDERGLAZES TO FREEZE. The suspension will separate with unpleasant results.

Pros
  • Allows for experimentation with different firing techniques, such as reduction or oxidation
Cons
  • May have a limited color selection compared to other underglazes

Great Product in my review

I really like these samples! I have used them on several of my pieces and all the colors were true to type. The brown color was very very thick and chunky and needed thinned quiet a bit.

Pros
  • Contains no lead or cadmium, making it safe for use in food-bearing pieces
Cons
  • May require specific mixing instructions or formulas for best results

The Speedball underglazes are great. I apply them on bone dry pottery then fire them on a bisque fire, then apply a clear glaze over that for the glaze fire. Easy to use and I like the way they look after the glaze fire.

Pros
  • Speedball underglazes work very well in my elementary art classroom.
Cons
  • Can be expensive compared to other underglazes

arrived in good time

They were frozen. That is what caused the lumps Beware! They arrived in good time and what I have used have all worked well. I do believe I will order again. I am now getting a chance to use the glazes and 4 out of 5 were good, no issues, but the 5 on was horrible. It needs to be sieved. it has lots of lumps in it and I don’t say this lightly. I shook it like crazy and then I poured it into a bigger dish and blended it with my small blender and still massive lumps. Not happy! It should be all of

Pros
  • Offers high-quality pigment for vibrant, long-lasting colors
Cons
  • May produce a mottled or uneven effect on textured surfaces

Beautiful and easy to use

I love this under glaze! The colors appear extremely similar to the tile sample shown in the photos. I purchased the Pine and it is such a beautiful rich green that skews slightly muted in the best way (though not as much as the photos would indicate). I love how it looks with a clear glaze and the amount in the 16oz container is a great value. Highly recommend for new and experienced ceramicists!

Pros
  • Safe to use in both home and studio environments
Cons
  • May require a specific type of brush or applicator for best results
