I bought these because I have a cat who LOVES to beg for attention by opening my cabinets for them to slam especially when I'm trying to sleep . I bought them because I'm renting and didn't want to install latches in a house I don't own. If the instructions are followed, the adhesion to the wooden floor is excellent. I've had them installed since March and none of them have been dropped or moved. The handle is good enough for stopping my pets, but you'll probably need two to stop a larger animal. I placed them in the bottom corner of the door to make sure my pet usually tries to open there. You must be careful to close the cabinets a little more carefully after installation as the forces of the magnet will cause them to slam shut if you just close them. I haven't tried the screws that come with magnets, but imagine if those would work well too.
