As a regular paper shredder I wouldn't recommend this. If you're really concerned about privacy, this won't shrink your newspaper. Someone else can put it all together. Well, if you're willing to open it up and take it apart with scissors, it's probably a little safer. I bought this as a recommendation to shred my own quilling paper. It's ok for this purpose, just not very good. It has a fuzzy texture that can be nice, but the paper cuts smoothly. You get a lot of random/lost parts and it often cuts at an angle. For an inexpensive solution, I would still recommend using this.
