This cable locks into place after it is securely connected. I had a problem with the full connection to my computer and just realized (after 2 months of use) that I was only using Wi-Fi and no wired connection. It was a computer connection issue which I fixed by fiddling with the cable and putting more effort into getting it into the ethernet connector on the motherboard. No problems connecting to a router that doesn't have an enclosure in the port area.
