I bought this Black and Decker model IRO2V from my local Wal-Mart in March of this year. As a quilter, I prefer an iron that doesn't have an auto shutoff because it gets tedious to walk to the sewing machine for several minutes and then reheat the iron to iron what I've just sewn. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find an iron without this feature so I was very happy to find this brand at a good price. It worked great for about six months, warmed up well, vaporized well, and was light enough that my hand or arm didn't hurt. Unfortunately today I turned it on to heat it up while cutting fabric and it smelled "hot". When the smell got stronger, I unplugged it and placed it on an ironing board covered in a cotton-polyester blend. In the few minutes it was connected to the network it overheated to the point that it instantly melted the sheet metal through and through - see attached photos.
