Can't believe 8 years have passed and the main engine of the machine is picking up speed. I trim my hair and beard every month with #2 clippers, trim my ears and neck without protection. $20 haircut x 12 months x 8 years = $1920 saved, not even counting the cost of facial hair; Razors, blades, soap, or even time for meeting logistics; plan, travel, wait. I just ordered new replacement blades, but I probably should have done it sooner, maybe about 4 years. I've tried sharpening my own blades a few times. Eventually 1 tooth broke off. There is a little rust on the blades, carbon steel, it happens. I could oil them better, but the room is getting damp. Even if you buy new blades once a year, you're still saving money. The clipper can get hot and even get hot if you leave it on for too long. It can be very noisy, but that means something is wrong. Oil needs to be cleaned or adjusted. At the top position of the blade there is some slope that I always push forward. This way the bottom blade interacts with the widest (strongest) part of the top blades and you're less likely to bend/break your tooth.
