UPDATE 2019 - this heater has failed but is still the best. After about a year and a half of perfect heating, my 100 watt Neo-Therm started changing temperature settings on its own, and after a few days it was up to 86 degrees (I noticed the problem and fixed it, later stopping it at 96). degrees in the test tank where I tried to reset it). I contacted Cobalt through their website and they honored the 3 year warranty with a new replacement. I did a little research while waiting for a replacement and still think these are the best heaters for the money (or maybe just the best in general). I have a separate thermometer to keep track of the temperature and it rarely changes even 0.1 degrees. Most other heaters are off by 2 degrees or more even when working properly, and have many failures on top of that. My other Neo-Therm has been working flawlessly for about 2.5 years. Now that this error was occurring I became more cautious and hooked up the heater to the Inkbird temperature monitor (I like the 308S more than the 306 for a variety of reasons, but Inkbird has a few different options). I'm still thinking. A heater this accurate should have 1 degree increments and it can make sense to have models with narrower temperature ranges. But that's just my question of perfection. INITIAL REVIEW JUNE 2017: This is my second Cobalt Neo-Therm heater and I bought both because it's the only heater I could find that didn't have a handful of "it fried my fish". Reviews. I had another one for a year and it worked great, this one is new and so far it has been perfect. I've tested both with multiple digital thermometers and they keep the water temperature right without hesitation. Not small swings - no swings. I really want to give it five stars but I have a problem and I have to have zero complaints to give it five stars. These heaters are so precise that they can and should be adjusted in one degree increments, not two degree increments. I know I'm very picky, but these heaters are so good it's a shame they don't make them even better. Please note I have seen some reviews where they have stopped working and there is a process to reset them and it seems to be working. When setting it up for the first time, be sure to follow the instructions on leaving it in the water for a while before operating it. One more note - I'm using a 100 watt heater for a 20 long tank, and that's enough for this size (winter is going to be a real challenge - it's just having to deal with the air conditioning blowing). Tank).
