CAUTION Read the performance requirements for your SSD. You can only expect 0.9A from USB3.

USB3 ports often don't deliver enough power to power any of the four SSDs I tested. After carefully reviewing the power requirements, I found that most SSDs require more power than the 900mA that my 2017 Surface or 2016 Shuttle can provide. Some newer USB3 connectors may have more, but I haven't found them.
