For those who don't know, Nikon, in their boundless wisdom, removed an incredibly simple useful feature when they upgraded the D5500 to the D5600 β they removed the remote control functionality for the infrared shutter release. Being an aspiring photographer, I have to appear in about 90% of all photos I take. I no longer have the remote access function, my work has suffered a lot since I bought the camera. Sure, you can still set a timer on the camera itself (after clicking the menu) and then run to get into the photo, but the luxury of setting up a shot to get in and then be able to take as many remote shots as you want. disappeared - you had to get out of the frame, reload the camera, and then take a different shot each time. Unfortunately, in all of its marketing materials for the new D5600, Nikon has failed to mention that the feature most useful to my work has been removed. I had no idea. So here I am with my new camera (bought to replace an old D5300 that was damaged) and I don't have an efficient way to do what I need. I didn't want to ditch the new D5600 - despite the disappointment you've probably picked up at the missing feature, the camera is otherwise vastly superior to its predecessors, taking sharper, clearer photos than the previous model. the old ones always did. Currently, Nikon offers a shutter remote and receiver for the newer cameras β two separately purchased items for only about $170 (you could get the old infrared remote in a universal version for $9) β but I'm not that one Only one who doesn't see this as spending that much to replace a feature that used to be standard, but the Nikon remote system doesn't have a timer setting feature. After spending $170, you still have to return to the camera after a shot to reset the timer. To hell with that. So stop complaining about Nikon. After researching possible solutions, I settled on this Pixel Pro TW-283, the Nikon version. I am more than happy. Now I have full remote control of the shutter again and more. In addition to simple remote trigger control for single shots, you can also set up burst shooting, BULB shooting, My Precious Remote/Delay shooting and more. Where Nikon only gives you a few timer settings (2, 5, 10 and 20 seconds), the TW-283 can be set from 1 to 59 seconds. Works flawlessly. Setup is easy: insert batteries, set the channel if needed (probably not), attach the receiver to the camera's hot shoe, connect an over-length cable to DC2. Port on the left side of the camera, turn everything on and you're done. Seriously, that's all. I cannot recommend this remote shutter system enough. A few things to note---When the receiver is connected to the camera, You can no longer move the foldable screen on the D5600 (or any other camera where the screen hinge is on the same side as the ports) - cables and connectors get in the way. There is no way around this, since Nikon's additional connections are located here. Unfortunately, I always flipped this screen to the front to better compose the shots I was in, so I'll have to come up with a workaround for that. Please note that this is not a criticism of the Pixel TW-283 or even Nikon, in fact these ports have to be somewhere. The design of the receiver and remote control is pretty good, but they are by no means durable. The receiver is firmly and securely attached to the camera, but the remote control always remains in your hand, when you use them. The remote is big and light, and if you drop it on a hard surface (like the concrete floor in my workshop), it won't stick. In fact, I seriously doubt it will survive a single fall onto hard ground, so be careful with that. I hung mine from a string attached to my belt so I wouldn't drop it on the floor. When I take a picture, I press the remote control and then leave it hanging on my belt out of sight. If you're a frustrated Nikon D5600 owner, I share your pain. (But other than that, it's still a fantastic camera, isn't it?) This Pixel Pro TW-283 solves Nikon's (stupid) decision to ditch the infrared remote control feature, and then offers even more features and functions. that it will withstand a single drop onto a hard floor, so handle with care.
