Well I bought this as an ice cream scoop but I suspect it will not be strong enough for hard frozen ice cream due to its design. Many seem to use it for cookies, but this surprises me a little since the volume of one ball is more than 5 tablespoons. I bake cookies a lot and a medium sized cookie takes about 1 tablespoon. This makes monster-sized cookies (not that there's anything wrong with that :). I've seen it's good for muffins or cupcakes. Edit: After finally trying this scoop on real ice, my first impression was proven correct.. It's too thin for ice cream and the smudge strip gets stuck and becomes unusable. Maybe this works if your ice cream is very soft (melts), but you're better off using this for pancake batter and maybe cookie batter that isn't too thick, or muffins.
