The right angle reduces stress, but the 3x1.1 connector in the laptop is pretty "backlash free ".
Get this if you have a power cord hanging from the table behind the laptop. Otherwise you need a method to hold a small voltage on the 3x1.1 connector as it doesn't capture the small power pin in the laptop very well (the power goes out at a small bump).
