Review on πŸ“€ Home DVD Player, Home CD Players, TV DVD Players by Matt Addison

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The last DVD player sold in 2020 with HDMI output.

After more than 8 years since the purchase and operation of the old BBK DVP753HD video player, people began to think more and more about buying a new video player to view and listen to their collections recorded on discs. BBK DVP753HD has been serving faithfully since 2012, we use it almost daily for 2-3 hours a day. And it still works, but sometimes the sound began to disappear, you have to stop recording and rewind, which, of course, interferes with viewing. Accordingly, the choice of the manufacturer was predetermined, of course - BBK and selected a video player with similar connection parameters and playable formats. Of course, time does not stand still, and disk devices are used much less, BUT our collections of films and songs need such a technique. After monitoring the models, they were very upset, there are VERY few disc video players currently sold, and there are VERY few that have an HDMI output. We chose a DVD karaoke player DVP036S from a trusted company BBK, ours was dark gray (Dark gray). DVP036S is practically the only video player sold now that has an HDMI output!!! For this and bought! Prior to the purchase, I specifically called the manufacturer's representative office to make sure that this model was officially supplied and sold in Russia. There they confirmed to me that deliveries were going on, the goods were officially sold. So a brand new video player was ordered and received in the well-known Player store. RU! Impressions about buying in the Player. You can see it in my other review. In the box: DVD player itself, user manual in Russian, warranty card, remote control model BBK RC-DVP770, audio/video cable tulips. HDMI cable is not included. Instructions for BBK DVD player DVP036S can also be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. In general, it is convenient to have a separate folder on a disk or in the cloud, where all the instructions for your equipment are stored, you will not have to look for a long time if necessary. When buying a new device, I immediately add instructions to it in my folder, it was very useful in life! The player itself looks prohibitively huge, especially compared to our older BBK DVP753HD player. For what purpose the manufacturer makes such a colossus remains a mystery. The build quality is also very low, the front panel (where the player screen is) is glued poorly and a fairly decent (3mm) gap is visible! The disc tray is installed crookedly, more shifted to the right, fortunately this did not affect the work. The USB port is also skewed. There are several outputs in the player: composite video output, HDMI output, stereo audio output. There is no analog video output, although the older smaller player had one. There is one USB port, one microphone output. The USB input is located extremely inconveniently, right in the center of the front panel, which sometimes interferes with the signal from the remote control when a USB flash drive is inserted. The microphone input is also located inconveniently, on the right side of the player. The player is so very wide, and here also the long microphone plug will stick out on the side, for those who have the player in a niche it is almost impossible to use karaoke. The old DVP753HD was more convenient in this regard, the USB output was closer to the right edge of the front panel, next to the microphone input. The player supports FAT and FAT32 (NTFS system is not supported). Files larger than 4GB are not readable, it does not see an external disk in NTFS format. There are 11 codecs installed in the player: XVID; MP3; JPEG; DIVX 3; DIVX 4; DIVX 5; SVCD; VCD; CDDA; HDCD; WMA. Unfortunately, for more than 8 years the player has not acquired additional codecs and, therefore, there are no more playable formats. Reads AVI, MP3, MPEG-4, DVD, VCD, licensed audio discs, OGG, JPEG files. The MKV format, as it was not readable, is not readable. Plays only basic audio and video formats from DVD discs and USB devices. The player only supports audio files with bitrates up to 256 kb/s, and although this is honestly stated on the manufacturer's website and in the instructions, I would like a little more possible sound quality. Bitrate is one of the main parameters of audio and video files, affecting their quality and size. The bitrate of AVI files read from USB devices in the new player has decreased: it was Extract from the instructions: The DVD player reads karaoke discs in DVD, VCD and CD+G formats and does not play discs in specialized formats (eg LG Karaoke). The native BBK karaoke disc from the old DVD player didn't read either! When watching copied DVD discs, where there is a warning about legality and so on, you can hide (skip) these inscriptions with the click of a button, the Q-Play function is an old "trick” of BBK video players to skip ads before the movie starts and it still works. The manufacturer also announced the CD-RIP and Copy Function functions, which allow you to copy data from discs to external USB media, including decoding and transferring compressed music from an audio disc. And there is a function "Protection from viewing unwanted discs by children." The inner shell of the system looks very ancient. The splash screen of the player has become a nasty faded blue color. In pause mode, the inscription BBK rushes around the screen, very quickly, and, unfortunately, it was not possible to turn it off. The menu is very meager and stupid, like there is an item, but there are no settings for it. The color settings disappeared from the menu of the "modern" player, which had a strange effect on the quality of the image from it, it took a very long time to adjust the color, brightness and clarity settings through the TV menu in order to make the colors of the picture acceptable. The old player did not have such problems and does not arise. The menu was logical and convenient. Another unpleasant feature of the DVP036S menu was the lack of a full view of the file name. What's in the folder menu, what's in the subfolders. In the old player, the file name could be seen at the bottom of the screen, and it also went as a moving scrolling line when you hovered over the file. In DVP036S the menu does not have a scrolling line showing the file name, and there is no bottom line at all, there is just a gray empty field. Also oddities include the constantly straying parameter of the video standard TV system menu item: TV system selection Choices: Auto, PAL, NTSC Whichever item is set and saved to PAL or Auto, when turned off/on, NTSC is set. Normally, after making the settings and saving them, you could forget about it, but not in the DVP036S. We were unable to overcome this failure. Remote control model BBK RC-DVP770 is small and not very uncomfortable. It has a narrowed shape (wider and thinner at the top, narrower and thicker at the bottom), with small buttons. The battery in the remote control is inserted, but you need to pull out the safety tab so that contact appears and the remote control works. The battery itself is a thin, 3V lithium tablet, model CR2025. The signal from the remote control is weak and narrowly focused, it requires a fairly accurate aiming at the player. The manual contains a remote control of a different model BBK RC-DVP032, it looks similar, perhaps it also fits the DVP036S player. Summing up, I can say that the price is about 2200 rubles, for a player of such mediocre quality, it is at least doubled. But with complete lack of alternatives and the absence of players with HDMI output on sale, you have to be content with this. In general, the player copes with playing DVD and CD discs and USB devices. Plays major media file formats.
