Review on 🌊 LeakSmart Dishwasher Leak Detection and Appliance Shut Off Kits by Brad Knierim

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Preliminary 5 star dyno rating

Received this kit yesterday. My dishwasher sat on a tarp in the living room for about two months after its water inlet valve leaked and the leak flooded the kitchen floor and the leak went undetected long enough for water to enter the living room. Room, under the carpet and under the slate cushion on which the wood stove stands. There was an insurance claim, then a water cleanup with six or seven huge fans including one with a dehumidifier. Because of this noise, my wife and I had to eat out in restaurants for about a week because the kitchen wasn't working. The kitchen floor was torn in some places. The carpet in the living room has been cut into pieces to allow access to the wet floor. The slate was smashed and the wood stove put aside. I mention all of this because I want people to know how awful it is when a dishwasher leaks. And there's money: everything that was torn is still torn because the insurance company spent so much time doing all that work with their paperwork. I pay about two thousand dollars as a deductible. Good: This kit is a shutdown. First I tried the water connection (dry because the dishwasher is in the living room) and the inlet piping matches the brass body perfectly. The other side of this cabinet perfectly matches the faucet on the wall under the sink. Then this morning I checked the electrics - did a dyno test: put everything on the table and put some water on the paper towel that was under the sensor. The result was clear. As soon as the water hit the paper towel, the valve motor started and the valve closed in just a few seconds. I've done this test a few times. The buttons on the control panel worked great to silence the alarm that went off once water hit the sensor and worked great to reset the valve to the "open" position after removing the sensor from a wet towel and drying it would have . I've done this a few times too. So: This test gives me the confidence that this kit actually works when installed under the dishwasher; but I really don't know if it will - it just went straight to the table. Unless the dishwasher fails again, I may never know if this thing will get the job done, but I think I did everything I could to prevent this disaster I'm living with from happening again : two months and counting the ruined kitchen (there is no dishwasher!) and the living room.

Pros
  • Reliable continuous service - system performs monthly automatic valve maintenance
Cons
  • Replaceable
