Review on Insta360 Adaptive Stabilization Waterproof Control by Michael Schafer

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not ready for prime time.

Bought with high hopes. Super Elmer lens from Leica, 1" sensor in a modular system that looks stunning! Too many cons here to justify the $550 price tag. 1. Cannot import frames into Final Cut Pro or editors Premier Pro only if you download the plugin MUST use Studio 360 to import clips and then batch process them (takes a long time and adds a step) 2. Battery life is short, around 35-40 minutes. 3. This thing gets HOT, such as over 120 degrees hot after 15 minutes of use 4. The screen is finicky and sometimes the touch doesn't work 5. No HDR video mode 6. The color is far off, make those up Skin painful and pale. Not the same as 4k or module 360.7. No close focus so vlogging with it? Fur.8. Field of view is narrow even compared to the Gopro Linear. When set to wide it's about wide as linear on the GoPro any kind of ultra wide vision 9. It's better be i low light than the GP8 but not by much. 10. The onboard mic is terrible even after FW updates. It appears to be a beta product that looks amazing in design and features, but the quality is yet to be matched, and there's no ease of use either, with the workflow adding hours due to importing and then exporting to Studio. It uses its own format that cannot be read by any editor. For a standard video camera, this is not a good idea. That alone is an obstacle for me. I understand if you're shooting 360 degrees, but as it is this isn't a 360 camera with a 1 inch module. A decent first try for a serious little camera, but I prefer the GoPro 8 and even older Osmo Action to this 1-inch module. I also had problems with freezing. I'm sending it back. I really liked the 360 one X and still have it. However, this requires some work.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • flimsy
