Ok, I understand the title of my review is a logical fallacy, but this is actually a very secure lock that gives me confidence when protecting my bike outside of shops . Anyone who has watched the Lock Picking Lawyer on YouTube knows that picking waffle locks requires special tools and skills that the average thief most likely doesn't have, so this is the number one security feature. The 712's second most important security feature is its thick chain, which cannot easily be severed without the use of large, conspicuous tools that are likely to draw unwanted attention to any intruder attempting to escape in your wheeled vehicle. I wouldn't trust it for overnight storage or in particularly shady parts of town, but for use outside of a busy store during a 30 minute shopping spree it does the job well. The mechanism on my lock remains smooth and easy to use, but I also try not to use force (per the product instructions) and a drop or two of oil every few months keeps everything in good working order. The chain is long enough to go through the rear wheel and frame and around the bike rack, so I use kryptonite cable threaded through the lock chain to secure the front wheel.
