I had some old Scandinavian crockery and gave it to my granddaughter for her dorm room. The top of the egg fits snugly against the bottom and never comes loose on its own. I believe one was made in the USA. I'm ordering a new one for myself and it shows a pack of Scandinavian paraphernalia which I wanted because they are made in the USA. When it arrived it said it was made in Taiwan. Thinking it was fake I called Noric support. The number was on the box. I was told they are not fake and they are now made in Taiwan. It had no Scandinavian merchandise logo and appeared to be of inferior quality. Although it looked the same, to me it was different in one important way. The top of the egg didn't fit exactly like the previous one at all! In fact, it was so loose that when I tried to lift it by the top of the egg, the bottom stayed on the counter. This made me wary of scalding and I informed customer service that I felt it was defective. She said it should fit snugly but not "snap in". I decided to give it a try and see if my fears were justified. When I first used it, it took me longer to boil hard boiled eggs than my old ones. They were almost done, but not quite yet. I also had to be a lot more careful removing it from the microwave and setting it on the counter to remove the lid so I could pour cold water on the eggs at the bottom. Everything worked on the first try. The second time I used it, my concerns were allayed. I boiled the eggs an extra minute to get the hard boil level I wanted. I leave it in the microwave for about 5 minutes before carefully taking it to the table. When I put it on the countertop the top fell off and hot water spilled onto the countertop. He flew away from me, otherwise I would have burned myself. I also used potholders on both hands and the water soaked through them instead of getting into my hands. Needless to say, after this happened, as I feared, I returned the product as defective for a refund. I'm re-ordering an item that says to rotate the top to lock on the bottom as there are grooves on the aluminum edge. I hope this will give me the protection I had on the OLD MODEL Nordic Ware product I gave to my granddaughter. It also has a lower price than Nordic Ware. I'll revisit the new item I have so you know how it goes with my original Scandinavian paraphernalia that I loved.
