Let me start by saying that we are by no means professional photographers. Every year we go on vacation, do a lot of diving, etc., and always buy disposable waterproof cameras. These cameras keep going up in price, though, so after $40+ we were only looking for cameras that didn't include editing in Photoshop when we came back. We decided to take the plunge and only buy digitally, and I wish we had done that sooner. The photos were very clear, even the ones we took in muddy water came out much better than our disposables. The menu is also very easy to navigate in the water. There wasn't much lag between photos, so we were able to take multiple photos of the bars etc even if they were moving fairly quickly. The camera itself floats, but we bought a light-colored floating strap just in case. We had this camera in and under water every day for 8 days, sometimes up to 6 hours a day, and had no issues at all with performance, leaks or photo quality. As recommended in the manual, we rinsed it with clean water after each use to remove salt residue etc. After all, we didn't use a normal digital camera at all and took all our photos, both in the water and outdoors, with it. It is very easy to charge and the charging time was shorter than we expected. I'm not sure how this camera compares to other more professional and expensive models, but it exceeded our expectations. For the casual photographer who wants to take pictures in the water, swimming or snorkeling, I have no hesitation in recommending this Nikon!
