Review on Coralife Protein Skimmer Marine Filter by Tiara Andrews

Revainrating 1 out of 5

You get what you pay for

Edit: Skimmer stopped after a few months. However, the filter continued to work. I unplugged it and washed the whole unit in the sink. I put it back on my tank and it started working. for some days. I took it apart again and voila, it worked again for a few days. I decided to just wait for my return to arrive and bought a suitable specialty skimmer. What started out as a great economic combination turned out to be a huge disappointment. I moved the star rating by one. Based on other reviews I had some concerns about the filter/skimmer. But I decided to shoot. I put this on my 30 gallon reef. I only have mushrooms, a zoa, soft corals and a few fish. A bit noisy but I don't think it's that bad. The impeller is quiet but the skimmer/air noise is audible. Other reviews say the skimmer is not removed. Rather, it simply fills the reservoir with microbubbles. Attached to this review are photos of a working skimmer with foam and a general lack of microbubbles. I had to adjust the air intake valve several times and after 24 hours of testing it worked (although it took a few days to finish). This is not a filter/skimmer for immediate enjoyment, let alone for beginners (I have been in this hobby for almost 20 years).
