I've never been a big fan but I use this in my 10 gallon reef AIO. It's an easy way to get extra filtration without reactors and I think the charcoal makes the water cleaner. GFO and resin don't seem to hurt either. If I wasn't lazy I'd just put the same coal in the bag and switch every now and then, but it makes things easier. It definitely doesn't replace frequent water changes; especially in small tanks. I've tried using it in the past to "fix" aquariums with algae problems, reduce water changes, or increase bioburden, to no avail. that you are working to correct individual imbalances (phosphate, nitrate, Ph, etc.).
